The Volkswagen Beetle. Also KnownKnown as the VW T1. Produced from 1938 to 2003 By Volkswagen, Not only produced in Germany but also in plenty of other countries including Mexico, Brazil and South Africa. Over 20 Million VW Bugs have been Made quite an outstanding amount.
The VW Beetle was very unique with a Rear air cooled engine. It Came out of the factory with 1200,1300,1500 and 1600cc Engines. From the 1970s onwards when the beetle was becoming very popular the lumps have been bored out to 1641cc,1776cc,1879cc still utilising the original crankshaft and just swapping the Barrels and Pistons and Cylinder heads for bigger ones..
During the latter part of the 1950s until 1979 There was a Beetle Convertible produced with coaching by Karmann. These Convertible where really the best of the best and proved extremely fasionable in the United States. Over the years there have been many upgrades and face lifts to the Type 1. The First model had a split oval rear window which was changed in the late fifties to a small Oval rear window. Then from Sixties and later came the beetle that is recognised world over. In 1967 The Beetle and Camper models where all switched to 12 volt models as all the earlier ones where 6 volt.
In the early 1970s next came the 1302/1302 variant beetles. Theses 1302/3 models where fitted with McPherson struts on the front where as earlier versions all had a Front axle beam. The 1303 model also came with a big curved front windshield where as all other models had a smaller flat one.
Now in the 2010's The VW Beetle is still as fasionable as ever. With all models been sort after and returned back to there former glory. the Pre 1967s Models are still the most highly prized models. The Cabriolet's now are few and far between with many long since snapped up my enthusiasts and collectors and kept in Garages and just drivent out for the Occasional VW Show.
