The Volkswagen Beetle. Also KnownKnown as the VW Type 1. Produced from 1938 to 2003 By Volkswagen, Not only Made in Germany but also in plenty of other countries such as Mexico, Brazil and South Africa. Over 20 Million VW Bugs have been built quite an amazing amount.
The VW Beetle is very unique with a Rear air cooled engine. It Came with 1200,1300,1500 and 1600cc Engines. From the 1970s onwards when the Bug was becoming highly popular the lumps have been bored out to 1641cc,1776cc,1879cc still using the original crankshaft and just changing the Barrels and Pistons and Cylinder heads for bigger ones..
During the Late 1950s until 1979 There was a Beetle soft top produced with coaching by Karmann. These cabriolet where really the best of the best and proved highly popular in the United States. Over the years there have been numerous upgrades and face lifts to the Bug. The First model had a split oval rear window which was swapped in the late fifties to a small Oval rear window. Then from Sixties onwards came the bug that is recognised world over. In 1967 The Beetle and Camper verisons where all swapped to 12 volt models as all the earlier ones where 6 volt.
In the early 1970s along came the 1302/1302 version beetles. Theses 1302/3 models where fitted with McPherson struts on the front where as earlier variants all had a Front axle beam. The 1303 model also came with a large curved front windscreen where as all other beetles had a smaller flat one.
Now in the 2010's The VW Beetle is still as fasionable as ever. With all models been sort after and returned back to there previous glory. the Pre 1967s Models are still the most highly prized vw beetles. The Cabriolet's now are quite rare with many long since snapped up my enthusiasts and collectors and kept in Garages and just bought out for the Occasional VW event.
